Kofi Ohemeng is a member of the Oyoko royal family and the occupant of the Bomiriso chieftaincy in the Asante Akyem Central traditional area. His father, Alexander Kwabena Ohemeng, also known as Nana BoakyeII, is the chief of Bomiriso by the Oyoko family.
Kofi’s situation presents a unique example of contrast.
According to sources, Kofi Ohemeng is on the run to save his life after it came to the public that Kofi is gay.
Kofi had been exposed by his gay partner Tony, who was recently caught and beaten by some members of the youth in Accra. According to Tony, he met Kofi at Accra Mall two years ago and they became friends. Kofi later expressed his love to him and convinced him to become his gay partner. However, he later discovered that Kofi had many other partners. Tony’s father, who is an elder at the Word of God Church, has refused to comment on the situation.
Meanwhile, Kofi is on the run and his family has disowned him.
One of Kofi’s uncles has stated that his nephew’s action has brought shame and dishonour to the Oyoko royal family and could cause his father to lose his position as a chief if he fails to punish him per their traditional rules. The family is determined to find Kofi and bring him to justice. Our sources say, his mother has been crying all day out since the news broke out in public and is fierce for the life of her son who could become the ruler in his generation after his elderly brother.
In the past, all the royal families of the various ethnic groups would kill or banish a member as a sacrifice to pacify the gods when he or she committed an abomination like this.
Our unconfirmed information tells that his father, Nana Boakye II in a secret meeting with his elder at his traditional palace last week plans to apply the old rules should he find Kofi.
We spoke to Lawyer Akoto Ampaw who has been speaking for the LGBTQ+ group to know about how the laws of the country could protect these boys and others since there is an ongoing debate to incriminate LGBTQ+ in the Ghanaian parliament.
“We are still fighting, however, the laws of Ghana have a wiry room to protect people like them, there can be a case of physical assault that the law can deal with it, but in most cases like this, the traditional rulers do it in secret without traces, they sometimes employ the powers of a juju person and with that, the laws cannot determine anyone as criminal. We are all waiting for the outcome of the LGBTQ debate in parliament. It is good they have run away”
Meanwhile, Kofi’s brother, Kwadwo Boateng, is still searching for him but has no leads as of now.
