Accra, Ghana – August 6, 2026

The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) is calling on all Ghanaians to support the full implementation of the Ghana Standard GS 4510, set to take effect on 1st October 2026, as part of efforts to make Ghana’s roads safer, the air cleaner, and car prices fairer.

In a public awareness campaign themed “LET’S SUPPORT GSA – PROTECT GHANA TOGETHER”, the GSA says public cooperation is key to ensuring the success of the new vehicle import standards.

What is GS 4510?
GS 4510 is the Ghana Standard that regulates the importation of used vehicles into the country. Its full implementation from October 1, 2026 is aimed at reducing road accidents, improving vehicle quality, and checking the influx of substandard and right-hand drive vehicles.

What Ghanaians Must Do
The GSA is urging vehicle buyers and importers to “JOIN THE MOVEMENT” by taking these 4 actions:

1. Ask for Certificate of Conformance before you pay – Ensure every imported used vehicle comes with a valid CoC.
2. Reject cars older than 2016 – The standard prohibits the importation of vehicles manufactured before 2016.
3. Report fake CoC to GSA – Help the Authority clamp down on fraud by reporting any fake Certificates of Conformance.
4. Choose Left-Hand Drive cars only – The standard bans the importation of Right-Hand Drive vehicles to align with Ghana’s road system.

“Your support makes Ghana roads safer for all of us,” the GSA stated on the campaign flyer.

The Bigger Goal
According to the Authority, the collective effort will help Ghana achieve “safer roads, cleaner air, and fair car prices.”

The GSA, whose mandate is Protecting Consumers, Ensuring Quality, and Building a Safer Ghana, is encouraging the public to report any violations and seek clarification by calling 0302 506991 or visiting www.gsa.gov.gh.

The campaign comes at a time when road safety and the quality of imported vehicles remain major public concerns in Ghana.
