A suspected drug dealer who allegedly attempted to bribe police officers with GH¢300,000 at a checkpoint in Bandankwanta has been remanded into police custody by the Damongo Circuit Court.
The accused, 40-year-old businesswoman Theresa Sungbung, is expected to reappear before the court on August 12, 2026.
The court, presided over by His Lordship Livingston Lartey Yao Ameevor, remanded her after she was arraigned over allegations of possessing substances suspected to be Indian hemp and attempting to influence police officers with money.
According to the prosecution, the accused was arrested during an operation at the Bandankwanta police checkpoint, where she allegedly tried to offer officers GH¢300,000 in an attempt to avoid further action after the suspected narcotic substances were found in her possession.
Theresa Sungbung denied the allegation that she attempted to bribe the officers.
She, however, pleaded guilty to possessing the substances suspected to be Indian hemp but told the court that the items belonged to her brother, whom she said was based in Techiman.
The court subsequently remanded her into police custody as investigations continue into the matter.
