The Accra Circuit Court has reduced the bail granted to TikToker Aminat Mahama, popularly known as “Bawumia Ba,” from GH¢1 million to GH¢50,000 as police continue investigations into allegations of offensive conduct.

Under the revised bail conditions, the court ordered that she provide two sureties, with one required to be a civil servant earning a monthly salary of at least GH¢2,500. The court also directed her to surrender her Ghana Card to the police and report regularly to investigators until the probe is concluded.

The latest ruling comes after Aminat Mahama was initially granted bail of GH¢1 million with two sureties following her arrest and appearance before Accra Circuit Court 2. Under the earlier bail conditions, one of the sureties was required to be a civil servant earning not less than GH¢5,000 per month. She was also ordered to deposit her passport or Ghana Card with the police and report periodically to investigators.

Aminat Mahama was first arrested in May 2026 by the Police Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) after videos circulated on TikTok allegedly showed her making insulting remarks about President John Dramani Mahama and statements that authorities interpreted as threats against the President and the First Lady, Lordina Mahama.

According to the police, some of her comments also allegedly encouraged acts of violence, prompting investigations into possible offences linked to her social media activities.

Known online as “Bawumia Ba” due to her vocal support for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the TikToker built a significant following through political commentary and other social media content.

She was later re-arrested after allegedly repeating similar remarks, leading to her latest court appearance.

Although the court has significantly reduced her bail, the substantive case is yet to be determined. She is expected to comply with all bail conditions while the police complete their investigations.
