Bryan Acheampong Calls on Kennedy Agyapong to Prioritise NPP Unity Ahead of 2028
Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr Bryan Acheampong, has appealed to Kennedy Agyapong to place the party’s collective interest above personal grievances and help unite the party as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.
In a statement issued on Friday, June 19, 2026, Dr Acheampong stressed that the NPP’s most urgent responsibility following its defeat in the 2024 elections is to rebuild, reconcile internal differences, and position itself for a strong political comeback.

He cautioned that ongoing internal disputes could undermine the party’s recovery efforts and provide an advantage to its political opponents.
Drawing on his own experience as a former flagbearer aspirant, Dr Acheampong acknowledged the disappointment and frustrations that often follow a highly competitive presidential primary. He said he understood Kennedy Agyapong’s concerns about the insults and attacks he claims to have faced during and after the NPP’s January 2026 flagbearership contest.
However, Dr Acheampong urged the former Assin Central Member of Parliament to rise above those challenges and focus on the party’s long-term future.
Describing Mr Agyapong as one of the NPP’s most influential and committed members, Dr Acheampong noted that his years of service to the party place him in a unique position to contribute meaningfully to its rebuilding process.
“It is for that very reason that I urge him, respectfully but firmly, to lower the temperature and to lend his considerable influence to the work of healing rather than division,” Dr Acheampong stated.
He further emphasised that the lessons from the party’s 2024 electoral defeat should inspire greater unity among members rather than deepen existing divisions.
“Our party suffered a painful defeat in 2024. The single most important task before us between now and 2028 is to rebuild, to reunite, and to return to power. Nothing—no grievance, no provocation, no personal quarrel can be allowed to stand above that mission,” he said.
Dr Acheampong’s remarks come amid growing tensions within the NPP following recent public exchanges involving Kennedy Agyapong and some party members, raising concerns about party cohesion as the opposition works to reorganise and strengthen its chances ahead of the next general election.
