In a major step toward food security and sustainable farming, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and Omanbapa Agritech Ltd have signed a landmark US$10 million agreement to establish a modern organic fertiliser processing and manufacturing plant in Ghana.[MoFA]

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Monday, 28th July 2026 in Accra by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, on behalf of government, and Mr. Bernard Oduro Takyi [Ch.IE], Chief Executive Officer of Omanbapa Agritech Ltd.

The new facility will be sited between the Ashanti and Ahafo Regions. The exact location will be determined by a joint technical committee.

A Push to Save Ghana’s Soils
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Eric Opoku said the partnership is part of government’s broader strategy to gradually shift Ghanaian agriculture from chemical/inorganic fertilisers to environmentally friendly organic alternatives.

“We are concerned about the health of our soils. We want to preserve soil fertility for future generations while ensuring the food produced is safe for Ghanaians,” the Minister said.

He noted that the deal follows months of discussions and marks the move from planning to actual implementation, with work expected to commence soon.

$10 Million Investment, 3 Phases, 60,000MT Target
Under the agreement, Omanbapa Agritech will invest approximately US$10 million to develop the plant.

The project will roll out in three phases:
1. Procurement of raw materials
2. Fertiliser blending operations
3. Full-scale manufacturing

The plant will start with an annual blending capacity of 20,000 to 30,000 metric tonnes, with plans to scale up to 60,000 metric tonnes at full production.

Omanbapa Agritech: Ready, Certified, and Farmer-Focused
CEO of Omanbapa Agritech, Bernard Oduro Takyi, said the company has already secured all regulatory approvals. It has completed product registration with the Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Directorate [PPRSD], Environmental Protection Agency [EPA], and the Tree Crops Development Authority [TCDA].

The company now holds the necessary licences to import, manufacture, and distribute certified organic agricultural products in Ghana.

Mr. Takyi added that Omanbapa, together with its international strategic partners, aims to drive the adoption of organic inputs across Ghana to support long-term goals of sustainable food production, improved soil health, and higher yields. He also appealed to MoFA to include Omanbapa Agritech in future government procurement programmes for organic inputs.

Why Farmers and All Ghanaians Must Embrace Omanbapa Agritech
For decades, Ghanaian farmers have battled rising costs of imported inorganic fertilisers, declining soil fertility, and concerns over chemical residues in food.

Omanbapa Agritech is offering a Ghana-made solution.
Here’s why the $10m plant matters to every farmer:

1. Healthier Soils, Better Yields: Organic fertilisers and soil bio-enhancers rebuild soil fertility instead of depleting it, ensuring farms remain productive for future generations.
2. Safer Food: Reducing chemical inputs means safer, healthier food for Ghanaian families and export markets.
3. Lower Long-Term Costs: Local production will cut dependence on expensive imported fertilisers and stabilize prices for farmers.
4. Jobs and Skills: The plant will create direct and indirect jobs and facilitate technology transfer in agro-processing.
5. Modern Farming Support: Beyond fertiliser, Omanbapa is already working on AI-powered precision agriculture, farm mechanisation, and organic pesticides — giving farmers a full ecosystem to farm smarter.

By investing in local manufacturing, Omanbapa Agritech is positioning itself as the partner Ghanaian farmers need to transition to profitable, climate-smart, and sustainable agriculture.

The MoFA-Omanbapa partnership is expected to strengthen Ghana’s agricultural value chain, reduce import reliance, and accelerate the country’s organic agriculture agenda.

Updates on construction and farmer onboarding programmes will be published on Omanbapa’s website and official social media platforms.
