President John Dramani Mahama is set to embark on a two-day working visit to the Volta Region as part of his nationwide “Resetting Ghana” accountability tour, during which he will inspect ongoing development projects, inaugurate completed facilities and engage residents on the government’s development agenda.

The announcement was made by the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, during a breakfast meeting with members of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in Ho.

According to Mr. Gunu, the President’s tour will commence on Thursday with a symbolic sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of the 24-Hour Economy Market at Juapong in the North Tongu District. Although all 18 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Volta Region are expected to benefit from the market project, the Juapong ceremony will serve as the official launch of the initiative across the region.

President Mahama will also inspect the newly completed 1,500-capacity multipurpose assembly hall at Peki College of Education, a facility constructed with funding from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

The President is further expected to inspect sections of the government’s flagship “Big Push” road projects, including the Asikuma–Anyirawase Road, the UHAS Bypass and the Anyirawase–Ho Road.

The itinerary also includes a visit to the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) main campus at Sokode, where President Mahama will inspect the ongoing multipurpose laboratory project, which was initiated during his previous administration.

The first day of the tour will conclude with the launch of the Free Primary Healthcare Programme at the Ho Municipal Hospital, where the President is expected to outline government’s plans to expand access to quality primary healthcare services.

On the second day, President Mahama will inspect the Ho Sports Stadium as part of government’s efforts to improve sports infrastructure in the region.

He will later participate in a citizens’ engagement forum at the C.M. Apeti Auditorium of Ho Technical University, where government officials are expected to account for development projects undertaken in the region while giving residents the opportunity to ask questions, share concerns and provide feedback.

The President will also travel to the Akatsi North District to inaugurate the newly completed District Police Headquarters at Ave-Dakpa. The project was initiated during Mr. Gunu’s tenure as District Chief Executive but was abandoned before being completed under the current administration following his appointment as Volta Regional Minister.

The two-day working visit will end with an inspection of the ongoing Ho–Denu road project.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Gunu called on journalists to provide accurate, balanced and timely coverage of the President’s visit. He assured the media that the Regional Coordinating Council and its Public Relations Unit would make the necessary information available to facilitate their work throughout the tour.

The Regional Minister also highlighted progress in road infrastructure development across the Volta Region, noting that the region has a road network spanning approximately 981.9 kilometres, with more than 350 kilometres currently under construction through the government’s flagship “Big Push” road programme.

He said the projects have created significant employment opportunities, engaging nearly 780 workers, including engineers, artisans, traders and young people, while stimulating economic activities in communities along the construction corridors.

Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association’s Volta Chapter, Dr. Harrison Kofi Belly, expressed appreciation to the Regional Minister for the engagement and reaffirmed the media’s commitment to ensuring accurate, fair and prompt reportage throughout the President’s working tour.
